Learn About Medicare Advantage With A Charlotte Insurance Broker Who Is Knowledgeable

By Mark Marabut

When you reach the age of sixty-two, you are eligible for Medicare insurance coverage. There is a part A and B. There is no prescription drug coverage. A consultation with a Charlotte Insurance Broker can help to decide which Medicare Advantage Plan will fill your needs best.

When you choose to enroll in an Advantage plan, it subsidizes the eighty-percent that is covered by Medicare. The enrollment period is for a year at a time. The cost may be paid on a monthly basis. In some plans in some states, there is no cost to join one of these plans.

Just as the senior citizen may have the cost for Medicare insurance taken out of the Social Security check each month, the cost of the Advantage Plan can be paid through Social Security. Generally, there will be co-payments for things like doctor visits and prescription drugs. When the senior needs a doctor other than the primary physician, often a referral is required before seeing that second physician.

In any plan you have specific doctors whose services are covered. But, if you choose to go outside the plan, you will not be covered for those services. The rules can grow complicated, and you will have to learn them to avoid using the wrong doctor for your care.

Once eligible for Medicare you can enroll in the Advantage Plan that best suits your needs. This coverage is referred to as Part C. Part D is for prescription drugs. Part A covers hospital charges and Part B covers doctors services, tests and outpatient care. After you enroll, the Medicare Advantage Plan will pay for your care.

An insurance broker can discuss which plans are available in the Charlotte area. You can learn and compare the cost, benefits and maximum payments you will be responsible for. You will save money on prescription drugs plus have other benefits.
