How To Become A CPA Accountant

By Robert Williams

Accounting is a noble career. Accounting did not start yesterday. It is as old as time. Even during the Babylonian Empire, there were accountants. The Roman Empire became the most successful Empire of the ancient world because of accounting professionals. America is a prosperous nation because it has Ivy League trained financial professionals. That does not mean that a person has to join an Ivy League university so that to become the best CPA accountant at the end of the day. There are some very successful accounting experts in the world who simply studied in local colleges.

One should not make a career decision in a hurried manner. As a matter of fact, a hurried decision will lead to regrets later. Thus, one should sit down and confirm whether accounting is the thing that he wants to do. Of course, joining accounting does not require any talent. However, one needs to have excelled in certain high school subjects.

Basically, a person who passed math is well qualified. That is due to the fact that accounting involves a good deal of calculations. An accountant has to be good with the figures. It does mean that one needs to have the best grades in math. Just an above average math grade is okay. Also, passing in English is necessary because of the communication aspect.

With all the basic requirements met, one will be free to select an institution of his choice. After finding the ideal institution, one should apply to the accounting course in question. Depending on high school GPA, one can start at the diploma level or at degree. Many people in the past started with diploma and ended up excelling in accounting.

A diploma can be the ultimate choice. A good percentage of the most successful accountants on earth started their accounting career at the diploma level. It does not matter where an individual starts. What matters is where he is going. One can even start with a certificate and become great. Some people will choose to start with a degree.

A degree holder will have to pursue a certified accounting course. This course is not easy. One will need to study hard. This is the course that will determine whether or not a person will become certified. One can do this course at his own pace, after which he will have to sit for an examination and pass.

After passing the examination of the board of certified accounting, one will be eligible to join the institution of certified accountants. This is the highest institution in the world of accounting. Members of this institution usually find it easy to clinch lucrative jobs. However, one will still need to build a wide bank of experience, skills, and connections.

The world needs more accounting professionals. Presently, there is a shortage in the West. That is the main reason why Western countries like United States are importing accountants from other parts of the world such as South Korea. Accounting is not only about the hard skills that are acquired from class. One will also need to have a good deal of soft skills.
