What Is A Prepaid Card And What Does It Do?

By Brian Moore

It can be very confusing trying to differentiate between prepaid credit cards and other cards. Since they all look alike and contain the same information, and cash, the confusion can just grow more and more. Well, here is a short guide to help you understand what a prepaid credit card actually is.

Prepaid Credit Card. A prepaid card is a method from which you can make payments for purchases you wish to make. The card may seem very ordinary but in fact you can use it to access your bank account without having to go to the bank. The card looks like any other card including debit cards but they come with a spending limitation which cannot be exceeded.

The card looks just like a debit card or any other card, but it comes with a spending limit. For instance, say you have a card which has a limit of $50,000 and you wish to purchase merchandise worth $60,000; you can pay the excessive amount in cash or you can purchase unnecessary items later when you have the amount.

The benefit of owning a prepaid card is that it can be availed in many ways. It can be used at a grocery store, at a casino, even at a gas station or anywhere you wish to make payments. These cards are the safest to go about, as you do not need to carry a bulk of cash along with you; all money is stored in the card.

The co-branded card programs allow you to withdraw any amount of cash anytime you wish to take out. It can be the middle of the night or early morning, whenever you please according to your need. The programs as well as the card offer the holder service of 24 hours non-stop in almost any destination.

Online Usage. The benefit of having a prepaid card is that you can even make purchases with it online. You may buy whatever your heart desires and make the payment with the card. The card can be used at retail stores as well; you may buy yourself anything at all with them.

Another plus point of owning a prepaid card is that you can even make purchases online anytime. You may shop for whatever your heart desires and make the payment with the card. The cards are not just limited to retail stores, they can be used everywhere.

No More Drama. Money in the form of cash can be hard to roam around with. It is also not safe considering the conditions nowadays. If someone is carrying a bulk of cash, they are easily noted and robbed. On the other hand, those who have the prepaid credit cards are safer as no robber would make attempts to steal them. Those cards require special numbers called PIN which only the holder has access to. This means without the PIN number, the card is of no use to the robber no matter what the amount may be stored in the card.
