How To Eat Better And Spend Less

By Cornelius Nunev

Most American employees have not seen a wage boost in some time. But the price of anything continues to fill. Some food prices have soared as a result of global warming, drought and political factors. But customers can take some good steps to significantly reduce those food costs, and eat better at the same time.

Cutting food to begin with

Cook and eat at home as often as possible. Whatever you make will cost less than it would if you ran out for it, and most likely it will be more nutritious. Additionally you have the advantage of knowing precisely what went into your meal.

If time is a problem, you can always get a crockpot. It takes about two minutes to throw some vegetables and meat in the crockpot for a delicious meal later.

Price of some great meat

Rather than making beef the center of every meal, you can just put it into your food or have a vegetarian meal once a week. You will get much healthier and possibly lose weight with the change. Do not go vegan, but try cutting back a little.

Stay away from organic

By avoiding organic food, you will save a ton of money. Many people think that organic food is the only way to go because it is really healthy, but there's really no evidence to support organic food being any healthier than any food. On top of that, it is always a lot more expensive than commercially grown food. Consider frozen vegetables; they will last longer and have more nutrition sometimes.

Keep body hydrated

In case you are worried about drinking tap water, just get a filter. Always keep away from soda pop and other sugary drinks, and just stick to water. It is free and will keep your body replenished.

Those planning to save money on alcohol should only drink it socially and never drink it at home. That is another way to cut back.

Cost of prepackaged foods really high

There are many people who like prepackaged foods, but they are pretty costly and not very healthy. Just make food at home from scratch.

Start with a menu

Make sure you take a look at your pantry and prepare your meals. You really should prepare them every two weeks to go along with when you get paid. Begin by preparing meals with what you already have and go shopping for the rest. Get generic brands at the store, and make sure you stick to a list to keep away from impulse getting.

To further reduce shopping costs, you really should consider getting a membership to a warehouse store like Costco or Sam's Club.

Make lunches at home

It is healthier to make a lunch at home rather than going out, so make sure you do that whenever possible.

Think to the future

Exchange produce with your friends and save cash by planting a garden and getting others to do the same.
